Waiting on Wednesday - Blood Wounds by Susan Beth Pfeffer

Blood Wounds by Susan Beth Pfeffer
September 12th, 2011 from Harcourt Children's Books

Willa is lucky: She has a loving blended family that gets along. Not all families are so fortunate. But when a bloody crime takes place hundreds of miles away, it has an explosive effect on Willa’s peaceful life. The estranged father she hardly remembers has murdered his new wife and children, and is headed east toward Willa and her mother.

Under police protection, Willa discovers that her mother has harbored secrets that are threatening to boil over. Has everything Willa believed about herself been a lie? As Willa sets out to untangle the mysteries of her past, she keeps her own secret—one that has the potential to tear her family apart.

There a few reasons why I can't wait to read this book:
1. It's only 250 pages, and sometimes I need a quick read.
2. I love stories where people keep secrets. Secrets are toxic, but make for great stories.
3. I own it!

I am not too crazy about the cover. It doesn't seem like a lot of time and effort went into the art, but what do I know? Could be a stock photo or they could have paid a girl to come in looking pouty and mysterious. Maybe I should ask someone....

Pfeffer is the writer of a few other books you might recognize; Life As We Knew It, The Dead & the Gone, This World We Live In.

  1. I am with you on the cover. Didn't grab me. The girls looks like she's been drained of blood, but maybe that's the point. IDK. But it's lackluster. Hope you enjoy the book. I like short books too.

  7. This does sound really good. I am a huge fan of books with family secrets - it always makes for that nail biting tension that you squirm reading, but love.
