Top Five With Unearthly & Hallowed Author Cynthia Hand +Giveaway

I'm happy to have Cynthia Hand back at the blog today talking about her Top Five Things To Do In Jackson Hole! Stay tuned for a giveaway at the end of this post.

1. Get high! There are lots of ways to get way, way up into the sky in Jackson. Go hiking, go skiing, climb up a mountainside! Take a ride to the top of the mountains on the Jackson Hole tram, up in Teton Village. I do this almost every time I go. You take this enormous tram to the top of the mountains and get to look over the entire valley. It’s gorgeous. It’s also about the cleanest air you’re ever likely to breathe.

2. Get wet. I don’t recommend a lot of swimming in Jackson, actually. The water is pretty cold. But you need to get out on the water. There’s a boat tour of Jackson Lake that is really nice, and you can rent boats and canoes and kayaks, too. Go fishing! White water rafting is also really fun.

3. Get to know the town. I love to simply wander around on the boardwalk at Jackson. Ride the stagecoach. Catch a show at the Jackson Playhouse, or, if you’re there in the summer, watch one of their street shoot outs. Stand under the antler archways. One thing I’d always recommend doing once in Jackson is having your picture taken at the old timey photo place where you dress up in old western costumes and pose for an old-fashioned photo. So fun. I also really like the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not Museum in Jackson, although it’s probably much the same as the RBION everywhere else.

4. Get stuffed. Oh my lord does Jackson ever have the best food. Do not plan on dieting. I am partial to Bubba’s, as you can tell if you read Unearthly, but there are tons of great places to eat in Jackson. And I would always recommend an Idaho (or Wyoming, okay, okay) rainbow trout, which they serve at several of the restaurants. Yum.

5. Get inspired. Mostly what I do in the Jackson area is to drive into Teton National Park and gawk at the mountains. There is something so intensely moving about those mountains, for me at least. You could also go over to Yellowstone National Park, which isn’t too far away from here, and see some truly amazing natural wonders.

Wow, maybe my second job should be as a tour guide. . .

Thank you Cynthia for that awesome tour around Jackson. I can see how you would be inspired to write in a place that beautiful! We can't wait for book #3!
