Review, Interview, & Giveaway: Fox Forever (Jenna Fox Chronicles, #3) by Mary E. Pearson

Fox Forever (Jenna Fox Chronicles, #3) by Mary E. Pearson
March 19th, 2013 from Henry Holt

Locke Jenkins has some catching up to do. After spending 260 years as a disembodied mind in a little black box, he has a perfect new body. But before he can move on with his unexpected new life, he’ll have to return the Favor he accepted from the shadowy resistance group known as the Network.

Locke must infiltrate the home of a government official by gaining the trust of his daughter, seventeen-year-old Raine, and he soon finds himself pulled deep into the world of the resistance- and into Raine’s life.

Another series, that I love, is coming to an end. *pass the tissues* If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend it! Jenna Fox has been on so many Best Of and state-wide librarian lists it probably set a record. In this final installment, Locke is giving back to the resistance that helped him escape from his engineered life. He searches for a life of his own and in a sense tries to catch up to Jenna who has been living for over 200 years. What he finds is adventure, love, and a career dedicated to helping people. Any review will just about spoil something for a new reader. So, you have to trust this librarian that the series is more than worth a read. Great for middle grades who love science fiction, but not really looking for aliens and spaceships. Dystopian lovers and beginners new to the genre will also enjoy!

I have to say that this series wrapped up really nicely. Mysteries are solved, relationships evolve, and by the end of the book we honestly know what happens in the end. No cliffhangers, no 'what the hellz' - it all worked. So ready to read what Pearson has cooking up next!

I'm thrilled to have Mary Pearson the blog today!

Was JENNA FOX always going to be a trilogy?
No! Even though I enjoy reading series, I never thought I’d want to write one and when I wrote The Adoration of Jenna Fox it was written as a stand-alone to explore some questions I had. But as it turned out, those questions weren't fully answered with one book and the second one, The Fox Inheritance, was born from it.

In the first book I tried to give light to many perspectives--I love exploring lots of viewpoints and all the gray areas in between, but when I was done I felt one there was one perspective that still hadn’t been voiced–and needed to be. I think Locke’s experience and perspective gave some balance to the story and opened up a whole new kettle of questions.

What were some of the working titles for the three books?
Oh my gosh, I’m getting heart palpitations just thinking about it. The Adoration of Jenna Fox didn't have a lot of alternatives. The Adoration title stuck from the beginning. The Weight of a Sparrow was a strong second, but didn't fly (sorry, pun intended.) But Fox Forever went through a billion (seriously) different titles. It’s so much harder to title a third book than a first one because it has some history behind it. For a while it was going to be The Second Life of Locke Jenkins. You can still find it listed as that some places online! But that title didn't quite gel with the series as a whole and finally we came upon Fox Forever, which seemed just right on many different levels. My publisher, Jean Feiwel came up with that one. (Thanks, Jean!)

The ending left me in tears, how many did you shed?
I always feel strange saying this, but I love it when I make people cry. Here, have a tissue. Really, as an author I'm hoping you're connected enough with the characters that it pulls the same emotions out of you that it does me. Yes, I shed more than one tear. There were two scenes especially that actually got a full-fledged sob out of me. One had been such a long time in coming and was actually described in the first book, so that got to me. And the other one took me by complete surprise. I didn't know it was going to be sad. It was a reunion scene of sorts, but for me that one was really a tearjerker. *Sniff*

Thanks for hosting me today, Jen! And for helping me celebrate that Fox Forever is almost here!
