The Book Blogger Hop (25)

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly event hosted by Jennifer at Crazy for Books and runs from Friday to Sunday.

The Hop is a fantastic way to get your blog noticed, and visit some other blogs that you didn't know about before. Head over and sign up and see what you can find!

Each week a different question will be added to the hop in order for conversations to occur, and for your followers to get to know you better. Here we go!

"Which book blogger would you
most like to meet in real life?"

Hmmmm, so many to choose from! I am not sure if I would say one particular person, but I would love to have one giant TX book blogger party. I have diligently been keeping track of us and, to date, there are over 50 YA and/or kidlitter bloggers! I have a little log of everyone and where they are from and we have all gotten to know each other well. Texas is a huge state and I just knew there were a ton of us out there. Each time I find another, I eeeek a little bit. We meet up a lot at book signings and festivals. Here is a good one of *some* of us at the Montgomery County Book Festival in Houston a few months ago. Can you pick out which one is me? Lol!

Follow Friday is hosted by the lovely Rachel at Parajunkee's View. Here is her question:

"What character in a book would you most like to be,
what character in a book would you most like to date?"

I can easily think of a zillion people I would NOT want to be. I don't want to be anyone who has to slay dragons or deal with demons chasing after them. Ugh, who? I am totally stuck. Date...okay this one is easier. I would totally date Jace even if he was my brother. For realz, who cares? We could adopt.... Also, I would take Dr. Cullen. Why would anyone choose a sweaty wolf or Edtard with rosy lips over a hot doctor with a healing touch? Not me! I think I will throw in Four from Divergent just because he is adventurous. Yes, all three - I'll take 'em!

Share your thoughts and I will find you at your hop.

"Coming Soon"

Follow Friday is hosted by the lovely Rachel at Parajunkee's View. Here is her question:

"Do you judge a book by its cover?"

Two words: HELLZ, YES! I've said it once and I'll say it again....I am out at dragons. We all have our preferences, and high fantasy isn't one of my favorite genres to read. What is high fantasy? It is where a story has more than just a few fantastical elements (talking animals or someone sees ghosts), there is usually a whole new world with a new language. Think Lord of the Rings. Anyway, if I see a dragon on the cover of a book, I usually don't pick it up. Yes, I will miss out on some good reads. Yes, I know this approach isn't ideal. But I'll be honest, my TBR pile is high and dragon books - angel books too - get pushed to the bottom. THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS: Firelight and Unearthly

Each week a different question will be added to the hop in order for conversations to occur, and for your followers to get to know you better. Here we go!

"If you could physically put yourself into
a book or series, which one and why?

I would have to say something with fantasy elements, but not too death defying. Nothing like the Mortal Instruments series. (too scary!) At the moment I would have to say Harry Potter, but I would be one of those characters that wasn't too close to H, H, & Ron. I wouldn't want to be a target for Lord Voldemort, but would still like to have some magical powers. Okay...my answer is pretty lame.

Follow Friday is hosted by the lovely Rachel at Parajunkee's View. Here is her question:

"Give us five book related silly facts about you."

1. People who dog-ear library books rank right up there with people who talk during movies. RUDE.
2. I own the original Kindle and it looks sad gathering dust. I prefer to hold a book.
3. I take a book everywhere. I read in the car, at the movies (before the show), kids games (when they aren't playing and at halftime), and at restaurants. My husband loves it! #sarcasm
4. I have a really hard time with high fantasy. I'm out at dragons. (well, not Firelight)
5. My bookmarks are usually old DC receipts.

Each week a different question will be added to the hop in order for conversations to occur, and for your followers to get to know you better. Here we go!

"Do you read only one book at a
time or do you have several going at once?"

I usually read one book and then listen to one in the car. I love audio books and it's a great way to cut down that TBR pile. On the other hand, my kids complain daily about my audio books. They usually don't get to hear the whole story and are totally confused when they jump back in the car. I listened to Numbers by Rachel Ward and I thought my 12yo was going to kill me...she hated it! She still uses a horrible British accent when she talks about that book.

Follow Friday is hosted by the lovely Rachel at Parajunkee's View. Here is her question:

"How did you come up with your blog name?"

I have talked about this several times, but here is the short version. This blog was created for a class I had in library school. In fact, here is what I wrote that first day, June 11th, 2009 - "This blog was created to meet the requirements for course 5013 Information Storage and Retrieval at the Texas Woman's University." I had to think of a theme that I would write about for the semester. Intellectual freedom has always been an interest to me so the name came easy.

After that class, I took two courses that required I post book reviews. When I graduated, I kept the blog, the name, and the rest is history...

Leave your comments and I'll find you!

"If I gave you or $80 and sent you into a bookshop right
now, what would be in your basket when you
finally staggered to the till?"

Lol, my mother say till! Anyway, I would definitely spend the loot on books for TLA (Texas Library Association). The three day conference is exactly one month away and here in Austin, TX. There will be 10,000+ librarians and book lovers, and 1,000 teens all talking books. Tons of authors come and sign and giveaway ARCs. I went last year and spent $71 and brought home about 125 books. So, the $80 would go towards books for authors to sign. I've bought a few already... If you are in TX, you should come. You don't have to be a librarian. ;)

Follow Friday is hosted by the lovely Rachel at Parajunkee's View. Here is her question:

"Who are you the Boy/Girl, instead of You the Blogger?"

That is a really strange way to ask, but I get the question. Besides being a blogger, who am I?

Wife of 1
Mother of 2
Librarian in a time/state where its tough being a librarian
Chronic volunteer
Avid reader
Camera junkie
Concert goer
Overachiever
Cupcaker

It's MY question this week!
"Do you ever wish you would have
named your blog something different?"

Yay for my question being chosen this week! I had no clue until this morning. I'll answer my question, nope! I am happy with the name. I had to choose something almost two years ago for school. I also couldn't make it personal at all. I thought about putting my last name, Bigheart, in the title, but the professor made it clear that it had to be anonymous. So...there ya go.

Follow Friday is hosted by the lovely Rachel at Parajunkee's View. Here is her question:

"Share your current fave television show! Tell us a bit about it..."

I have to pat myself on the back for giving up a lot of shows that I used to watch. I have really tried to cut down my TV time. With that said, there are a few that I don't miss either because they are my fave's or family fave's. My girls love GLEE SO much that we have them all recorded and I have seen them each at least 3 times. Some more than that. Another family favorite is Vampire Diaries, American Idol, Modern Family, and The Office. For me? I love The Good Wife and Top Chef...I'm good with those.

"What books would you like to
see turned into a movie?"

We talked about this over Christmas break, but I'll say it again....The Giver. Jeff Bridges has been trying for YEARS to try to put this into production, and for one reason or another, it just hasn't happened. Le Sigh. I will say that I am scared to death to see what The Hunger Games will look like. Please, oh please don't dumb it down because of the violence!

Follow Friday is hosted by the lovely Rachel at Parajunkee's View. Here is her question:

"If you are a fan of Science Fiction,
what is your favorite book?"

I am a huge YA Sci-Fi fan! There are SO many that I love...this is so not fair. I'll break it down a little so I can name more than one. Lately, I loved Across the Universe by Beth Revis. I'm reading Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card right now. I like what I see so far, and I know it is a huge favorite of many. I have high expections for that one. Overall, my favorite would have to be The Giver by Lois Lowry. To my surprise, I read this little gem the other day on Lowry's blog:

"I have just finished the first draft of Part 2 of the fourth book in what was once The Giver trilogy, soon to be, I guess, quartet. It is now at 309 pages so I expect the final first draft will be well over 400, the longest book I've done."

Can you say, FREAKING OUT?! I am! I saw Lois speak just last month and she never mentioned this bit of hot news. Gah! I guess it's better that she didn't. I would have screamed in front of an auditorium of people.

"Tell us about one of your posts this week,
and give us a link so we can read it?

This week I wrote an unconventional review for DEMONGLASS by Rachel Hawkins. I was so excited to borrow an ARC from a fell Texan blogger! Sometimes I get a little bored reading reviews and I figure my audience does as well. So, I shook things up *just a tad*. So...jump HERE to read a pretty much spoiler free review.

Follow Friday is hosted by the lovely Rachel at Parajunkee's View. Here is her question:

"What is your favorite romance hero type?"

Hmm, honestly, I don't do a lot of romance. If there is a love interest in the story, I like the man to be a bit reckless. I hate to say bad-boy type, but yes, bad-boy. Tattoos, motorcycle, and beat up leather jacket....I'll take it all. Oh, he can ditch the cigarettes though, yuck! I would prefer him to have a bit of mystery, a dead parent, and maybe a dog that follows him everywhere. ;)

"What book are you reading now & why?

I am reading DEMONGLASS by Rachel Hawkins today. It is book #2 in the Hex Hall series. I am about halfway through and really enjoying it. The book before that was The Iron Witch - I just posted my review today! Up next...Cryer's Cross. Wow...there a lot of great books out!

Follow Friday is hosted by the lovely Rachel at Parajunkee's View. Here is her question:

"What is the book you are currently pushing"?

Pushing is a funny way to put it. Personally, I would say recommending. This blog is such a great way to promote and recommend books. By reading others reviews, I get a good idea whether a book is right for me or not. Here is a few books I am recommending. The link will take you to my review.

"What book are you most looking forward to
seeing published in 2011? Why are
you anticipating that book?"

My answer is a little convoluted. I would normally say that I am looking forward to the final installment in The Forest of Hands and Teeth trilogy - The Dark and Hollow Places, but....I've read it! The Forest of Hands and Teeth is one of my favorite series, and I was literally jumping out of my skin for a long time for the third book. Lucky me, I got an advanced copy and read it a few weeks ago. It was awesome!!! I can't wait for the rest of the world to read. Author Carrie Ryan will be making a stop to Texas, and I now I am looking forward to that.

Follow Friday is hosted by the lovely Rachel at Parajunkee's View. Here is her question:

"What was your favorite subject in school"?

Oh geez. In high school.....lunch!! For my undergraduate, anything with the word Psychology in the title. Master's in Experimental Psych....statistics! By far, I love statistics. I took about 24 hours of stats. ;) Master in Library Science...I would say my favorite class was collection development. We talked about what makes a good collection for a library and how best to serve your customer. Interesting.... I liked the lit classes, but I had to write a review every week. For some reason...I didn't like that very much. Ha...look at me now!
