Five Great YA Movie Deals

Before we get on to my list, I have a few points to make about "movie deals". One - just because your movie is optioned does not mean that the movie will be made. There are thousands of books and scripts that get optioned, but until the money comes through....nothing happens. Two - is it just me or has every book under the sun been optioned?

Was there really any other movie that would be in my #1 spot? I think not! It would be an understatement to say that I am excited about this movie. I do have some concerns though. Will they pick the right actors? Will they follow the plot line closely? There are SO many variables that could make me worry to death!

The Giver has been optioned for years, and hopefully it will be made by 2012. IMDB says that it is "in development," but I haven't heard anything lately. Even though I heart The Hunger Games, I hope The Giver gets a chance. This is my favorite book and it changed everything for me (as far as what I read).

I think this would make a fantastic movie! Shadowhunters, vampires, warlocks, werewolves....this story has it all.  I hope they pay careful attention to the special effects. I think the effects will make or break this movie.

The book came out only a few weeks ago, and yet Matched gets optioned. Fine with me - I loved this book! I think this is a great dystopian and I hope Cassia, Xander, and Ky's story gets the go...

I really enjoyed Firelight and I hope this movie gets a greenlight for production. This book takes on a more 'Twilight' feel for me over the others.

  1. I would love to see a movie of Matched but I haven't read any of the others!

  2. I hadn't heard about Firelight and Matched. Both were great reads and will hopefully translate well on the big screen...Fun to think of going to the movies to see these books played out!

  3. I completely agree with putting The Hunger Games as number one. I really hope they do a good job with it!

  4. I didn't know that The Giver got a movie option. Wow!

  5. Seems script writers in Hollywood have all been fired since every single book is put up for a movie these days. I think they should bring back movie writers who come up with other things instead of ruining these great books by making them movies. Children do not even need to bother to read any popular teen series anymore they can just sit on their butts and wait for the movie to come out in a few months to a year. It's sad in my opinion.

  6. I haven't read firelight but I know for sure that Matched wont go well. It was a good read but wouldn't make much of a movie.
I have high hopes for the giver and especially the hunger games but the issue with the hunger games is that it's such a violent book. It would have to be rated r for what it contains and the target group is teenagers not adults. Thats an issue.

  7. I haven't read The Giver yet...I know you guys give me a hard time about it but the others are all great books that would make great movies!

  8. Everyone's going to have issues with different aspects of The Hunger Games movie... but I CAN"T WAIT TO SEE IT!!!!!!

  9. I can't wait to see...well, pretty much all of these. Wish they'd hurry it up, already!

  10. The Giver got an option a loooong time ago. I really hope it happens, but they keep putting it off.

@Alexa - really great points, and I totally understand what you are saying! Movies are big bucks and they know that fans of the books will go see the movie...even if it's terrible.

@Book Kritik - I think you are SO right! HG movie needs to be as violent as the books and they will have a huge issue on thier hand making it a PG13 rating. A lot of ppl think The HG book isn't a YA at all...because of the violence.

    @Cari - LOL! Read it! ;)
