Favorite At Fifteen

Well, it's official! I. Am. Old. Today, my oldest turned 15! I honestly can't believe it. To say that "time flew by" is an understatement.... Although I am glad that the diaper days are over, I am not exactly thrilled about her being fifteen. Last night, she was looking at driving schools. Ugh, my heart can't take it! Her being fifteen literally scares the bajeezus out of me. Boys, cars, college - the whole lot! I'm just not ready for it all.

I knew this day was coming and it really hit home at The Montgomery County Teen Book Festival. She wasn't able to attend, but I was asked to get a copy of Gooney Bird Green signed by Lois Lowry. This was her favorite book growing up. She loved it so much after a librarian read it in school to her whole class. Now she has moved on to all of the great paranormal romances that teen girls stay up till the wee hours of the morning to read. Her favorite book now that she is fifteen? The Darkest Powers Trilogy by Kelley Armstrong. She loved them more than Twilight! In fact, she happily boasts that Kelley is her favorite author!

So, in order to get my mind off of being older than dirt, tell me what YOUR favorite book was when you were fifteen. Mine? Believe it or not, I didn't read a lot in high school. I was a little.....busy with other activities. BUT, I think Flowers In the Attic by V.C, Andrews was one I remember. Wow...that book still terrifies me today!

Happy Reading!

  1. Unfortunately I was not a reader during my teen years :( Oh how I wish I were! I do remember reading The Great Gatsby in school & really enjoying it though. And you are not THAT old :P I think it's beyond amazing that your daughter loves to read! Such an awesome quality to have :) Like her Momma! Happy Birthday to Emma!

  2. Happy Birthday Emma!! And I agree with Ginger, your not old. I did read a lot in middle school but by high school I didn't read anymore. I hope my son will love to read when he grows up. Right now he's two and so far carries his little books around like me.

  3. You do not have a 15 year old! No way!

    I can't believe it.

I guess I'd go with Flowers In the Attic, too. It's one of the only books I remember reading. LOL

Tell your "sister" I said Happy Birthday. ;)

  4. I think my favorite book when I was 15 was any VC Andrews books!

I agree with you about 15 being a scary age! My daughter is only 5 but it scares me to think about her being 15 too! I'm dreading the day....

  5. Haha! My mom's been freaking out lately because her youngest recently turned 15 as well. Her other son turns 18 and I turn 21 this June, so she's really in for something! Lol.

    Happy birthday to your daughter!

  6. The Stand by Stephen King and Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice were my favorites at 15. Which has just made me realize... I was into dystopian and vampires before dystopian and vampires were cool!

  7. The Darkest Powers trilogy IS better than Twilight, so that makes sense! Loved it so much! Anyway, when I was 15 I remember reading Les Miserables and being OBSESSED with it. I had more high brow reading tastes back then... :) Now the idea of reading a classic kind of hurts my brain... I read to relax now.

  8. I was, like, too cool to read "normal" books when I was a teen...I was reading "hip" books like On the Road and other Beat writers. Lots of black and angst and stuff. I'm over that now and just like to read fun stuff. It's much funner that way!

Congrats on being the mother of a gorgeous young lady!

  10. Happy Birthday Emma! and you are NOT old!! But I do have a daughter who turns 10 this year, so I feel your pain. lol

Well, when I was 15 I was done reading and much too into boys...if I could go back, I'd change that for sure. But a few years before that, at 12 years old, I couldn't get enough of Francine Pascal's Sweet Valley High series!

  13. Well, I am fifteen, and I have to say my favourite book is Jane Eyre! I have loved it ever since my Mum gave it to me for my tenth birthday. I also LOVE The Hunger Games trilogy, The Mortal Instruments series, and The Harry Potter books.

  15. Hmmm, I was reading mainly horror. Lotsa Stephen King and Dean Koontz. Had a bit of an addiction really. Like I have with YA now. Hehe! Guess I have an addictive personality. Anyway also wanted to say my mom turns 48 this year and she is NOT OLD! Age a really a perception I think, you're really just as old as you feel. And with modern skincare, beauty and technology you can probably look as old as you feel too! Hehe! So YOU ARE NOT OLD!
