The Book Blogger Hop (10)

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly event hosted by Jennifer at Crazy for Books and runs from Friday to Sunday. The Hop is a fantastic way to get your blog noticed, and visit some other blogs that you didn't know about before. Head over and sign up and see what you can find!

Each week a different question will be added to the hop in order for conversations to occur, and for your followers to get to know you better. Here we go!

"What do you consider the most important
in a story: the plot or the characters?

Neither actually. I think the plot OR the characters being "the most important" is really subjective to the reader. We will not all agree on a character and the way they are portrayed in a book. Same goes for the plot, we all won't agree on the events in a story. If we did, we would all love/hate the same books. That's just not the case. What I do think is the most important is the authenticity of the story and its' characters. How believable is a story and the players? In contemporary fiction authenticity plays a huge part. When you add multicultural elements, things get even more complicated. Often times a writer will assume a character would say this or life on the prairie would be like that. It is imperative that writers do their research and paint an accurate picture. Fantasy writers can take more of a creative license than others. I have read many stories where the author failed to put authenticity first in a story.

Follow Friday is hosted by the lovely Rachel at Parajunkee's View. Here is her question:

"What did you study in college, or are currently studying and did
it lead to your current 9 to 5 or are you doing something totally different?!"

Funny you should ask, I am graduating tomorrow morning! I earned my Master in Library and Information Science in August and I walk tomorrow. I am so excited! I am still looking for that perfect library, but zee blog, reviews, and author stalkings keep me very busy!

What about you? Leave me your link and I'll find you.

  7. This might be the best Book Blogger Hop question I've seen to date.

So what's the answer? Plot! Hop over to my blog and let me tell you how a good plot rescued bad characters from bad book oblivion.

  8. I totally agree with you about the plot/characters; they're both really vital to the book in my opinion. And congratulations about graduating tomorrow! I'm still in high school, but I'd like to major in the medical field. New follower here. :)
