The Book Blogger Hop (8)

The Book Blogger Hop is a weekly event hosted by Jennifer at Crazy for Books and runs from Friday to Sunday. The Hop is a fantastic way to get your blog noticed, and visit some other blogs that you didn't know about before. Head over and sign up and see what you can find!

Each week a different question will be added to the hop in order for conversations to occur, and for your followers to get to know you better. Here we go!

"What very popular and hyped book in the blogosphere
did you NOT enjoy and how did you feel about posting your review?"

Oh, a question that people might not like to answer! I have no problem saying that Halo by Alexandra Adornetto was a highly publicized book and a huge disappointment for me. Huge as in epic. I was wooed by that gorgeous cover. It is still beautiful and it actually fits the book quite well, but that is literally about the only thing I liked about it. I wanted to throw this book across the room more than once. I was literally upset when I finished. I was mad because Bethany was so pathetic. I was mad because Gabriel (an angel mind you) just suddenly thought it was a-okay for a human to be involved in all this 'save the town business'. In a nut shell - I didn't believe this story at all AND I worry that teenage girls will fall into the "I would die without this boy in my life" fantasy. Okay...breathe.

Second part of the question is a no brainer. I have no qualms or apprehension about writing and posting a negative review. If I went to a restaurant where the food was terrible, I would tell everyone not to waste their money. I bought the book and feel like I can be honest on this blog - it is mine after all. Hopefully, readers appreciate my honesty and the fact that I stick to the book - no author bashing from me! If people enjoy books I don't like, that's okay too. There is something out there for everyone. I just want people, including teens, to read. Read the back of a cereal box if you got it!

I would love to hear your answer...even if you totally disagree!

Follow Friday is hosted by the lovely Rachel at Parajunkee's View. Here is her question:

"What do you do besides reading / reviewing as a hobby?"

It seems like all I do is cart my two teenagers around town to all of their activities. Their social calendar is off the chain! Volleyball, softball, soccer, friends, blah, blah, blah. I would literally hire a driver if I could afford one. For fun...I love to photograph my girls. We play America's Next Top Model all the time. I got a big fancy camera a few years ago and it has been a blessing. Oh, and I love to throw a party. TEXAS Book Blogger Party is tomorrow night...come join us!

  1. I was interested in Halo, but I've heard more good things than bad, so I probably won't go for it.

  3. I dig you honesty!!
And I confess I love the Halo cover, but when I began to read the reviews, it sounded like the type of book I don't like much, so I decided to let it pass unless I found it at the library or something.

Anyway! Awesome answer and happy book blog hop!

  4. Stopping in via the Hop! Halo does have an extremely beautiful cover. It's on my TBR list but I have always found another book to read before it. I've heard lots of gushing reviews and a few skeptical ones so it does seem like opinions are very mixed.

Hope you have a great weekend

  6. Hi Jen! Happy Friday:) I've heard Halo wasn't as spectacular as it appeared so I've yet to pick it up. I may still read it, but it can definitely wait:)

  7. Hiya, stopping by for the blog hop! Funny, Halo was the choice of pick at the previous one I was at as well! I'm hearing more and more that it's a disappointment and I'm now thinking I won't bother with it because it sounds like I'd have a similar reaction to you! And yes, negative reviews that stick purely to the books content are a no brainer. I have no problem posting them either and have no problem reading them either for all the reasons you stated.

  9. To be even more honest...I haven't ran across one single person who liked Halo. Not one. In fact, in my little universe....we call it "The Book" or "That Book"...eeeek.

Thx for the comments...I'll hop back.

  11. Oh wow. Thanks for the warning about Halo. I was thinking about picking it up at the library, but I might put that off. I just can't deal with anymore "I'll die without this guy in my life" crap. If there's going to be love in a story, I'd rather it be realistic. I'm sick of overdramatic love in teen books. It paints a false picture to the teens that read them.

  15. Hi there! I'm your newest follower! I'm hearing alot of disappointment about Halo as well as Fallen! Both were on my wish list - and have since moved to my "library list" I tend to get upset when I pay good money for a dud book! I've been to various cities in TX, but not Austin. This is odd as one of my cousins is a cop in Austin.....hhhmmm anyways, enjoy your weekend!

  17. I have not read one positive review about Halo! I think I read pretty consistently the same issues with the book, which you summed up very well.

  18. Halo has such a gorgeous cover I've been tempted several times to buy it. But the premise didn't really grab me, and now I'm thinking maybe I'll wait until my TBR pile shrinks before looking at that one.

  20. If, a big if, you want to give Halo a try (even after my terrible review), I would recommend reading the first 75-100 pages then skipping to about page 350. The middle can be completely skipped. You won't miss a thing. The climax is literally at the end of the book.
